What is a Small Business these days?
Is it head count? Revenue? There are many definitions of “small business” in America. Louisiana is a state where small businesses are numerous, often employing less than 100 people.

A business shouldn’t be judged by employee size – they should be regarded by the assets they leverage and the type of information they deal with. For example, a small CPA firm may only have 5 employees but the value of their data may be 5 million dollars.
Too many small businesses don’t place enough emphasis on the value of the assets they handle—assets like client information, medical records, financial and tax information, personal HR information, etc.
In our experience, CPA and law firms are notorious for lax attitudes toward data security – and no one has more sensitive information than CPAs and lawyers.
No matter how small you think your firm is, today’s cyber threats are too widespread to be ignored. Cyber criminals don’t care how big you are – if you are connected to the internet, then you are a target for hackers. They don’t discriminate. The smaller the business, the better target for hackers, because they know small businesses lack security.
Each business—no matter the size—has a responsibility to secure their personnel and client information and to educate themselves to the most prevalent cyber threats.
Even the most basic security can save a business from major financial and data loss.
